Ship Events Data

2013-11-25: On Nov 25, 2013, at 4 a.m. the "FRI WAVE" ran aground off Sölvesborg. None of the six crew members have been injured. The Swedish coastguard vessel "KBV 003" was on scene at 6 a.m. and sent divers down to survey the hull. The ship has suffered leaks in the two water ballast tanks. The fuel tanks were containing 52 cubic meters of fuel. No oil spill has been observed yet. The vessel was heading from Dunkerque to Sölvesborg with a cargo of limestone. Captain and First Mate had to pass breathalyzer test, and both have been tested positive and were brought ashore and handed over to the police in Blekinge. Representatives of the Swedish Transport Agency were heading to the scene. In the morning of Nov 26 the "Fri Wave" was pulled from the shoal off Sölvesborg. No oil has leaked. The "KBV 2020" of the Swedish Coast Guard escorted the disabled vessel into the Sölvesborgs port where the Coast Guard divers were waiting to examine the ship's bottom. The tug "Hafnia" which had been called from Sölvesborg joined by a second tug from Karlshamn achieved the success. The "KBV 202" and "KBV 003" were on scene during the salvage to be able to respond in case of an oil leakage.

2014-01-02: In trouble again. Hapless freighter FRI WAVE is in trouble again, 36 days after grounding in Sweden waters. This time it was Brunsbuettel. On Jan 2 14 Polish crew member fell on a ladder because of a heart attack, and later died in a hospital. Meanwhile, water police sniffed alcohol in captain’s breath, finding 0.7 per mil in a test (one and a half hour after drinking two bottles of beer). Vessel was detained, captain had to place a deposit.

2015-03-10: Cargo loss off Scotland. On Mar 10, 2015, the "FRI WAVE" while enroute from Dundalk to Wismar encountered wind forces of 10 Beaufort off the Scottish coast. A part of the deck cargo of logs was lost over board when the ship tilted up to 55 degrees in waves of five meters height and the fixings gave way or broke. The remainder of the deck cargo was still in disorder when the ship entered the port of Wismar on Mar 13. The ship was escorted by a police boat on the last leg due to the danger that still logs might be lost over board. On Mar 16 the ship was to be inspected by the relevant traffic authorities.
